A can opener is a device that opens cans. There are several different types that open different sizes of metal food cans. Basically, one works by first puncturing the metal and then cutting around the circular top of the can to remove the lid. Oddly, the can opener was invented about 50 years after metal cans were invented. Before that, people used tools such as hammers, chisels, and knives to open the thick tin cans. When cans were made thinner, inventions for opening them became possible. The first one was patented by Connecticut's Ezra Warner in 1858, and his design is known as a bayonet and sickle type. The bayonet part punctures the metal can and the sickle mechanism removes the lid to open it. Warner's device still left rough edges, and it wasn't used in households, but rather by grocers and the American military.

A long cylindrical shaped kitchen utensil, generally used to roll out various types of dough when making food items such as bread, pastries and cookies. This tool also works well for crushing crackers and breadcrumbs. Rolling pins are made from many types of material, such as wood, ceramic, marble, porcelain, glass, brass and copper, but wood is the most popular. There are also many sizes and styles available but the standard rolling pin seems to be the most popular because it is the easiest for most people to use. The standard or common rolling pin has handles securely attached on a rod that runs through the center of the pin and are fitted with ball bearings, allowing the pin to roll free of the handles. Other types include baker's pin, French pin, mini-pin, tapered pin, single-cut or double-cut pin, and hardtack pin. There are also a variety of specialized pins used for making specific foods such as pasta.

Material : Wood or plastic.
How to clean : Just wipe with napkin or brush

A potato masher or bean masher or pea masher or crusher is a food preparation utensil used to crush soft food for such dishes as mashed potatoes, apple sauce, or refried beans. The potato masher consists of an upright or sideways handle connected to a mashing head. The head is most often a large-gauge wire in a rounded zig-zag shape, or a plate with holes or slits. Basic designs made from a single piece of wood were used in Victorian times, before the more complex modern designs which are now used. This type of wooden masher is still used in Scotland and is known as a 'Potato-Beetle' or just a 'Beetle'.The modern design was patented by Lee Copeman in 1847. The idea resulted from his love of smooth, lump-free mashed potatoes.

Uses
Although potato mashers are most commonly used to mash potatoes, they are also used for mashing a variety of foods. They are most used in home kitchens, but may also be used in commercial kitchens. Commercial mashers are often of larger design (up to 32 inches in base width). Other common uses include mashing pumpkins and rutabagas for soup, making hummus, guacamole, chili, baking mix, egg salad, or even purées (depending on the fineness of the ridges).
